Funding boost for Girvan community group, Stepping Stones for Families.

Stepping Stones for Families are celebrating a two year award totalling £37,500 from Carrick Futures’ summer grant making round to fund salary costs for the organisations Money Advice Service, which is based in Girvan.  The Money Advice Service is well established in the community, supplying a service that is otherwise not available in South Carrick.

Last year the service supported over 300 people, and demand for the service has substantial increased in 2022 due to the increases in the cost of living, rising inflation and fuel costs.

The grant will ensure that Stepping Stones for Families can continue to support families who engage with their service to develop a greater range of skills and techniques for money management, budgeting, building resilience and also helping to build individuals confidence.  In total, the Money Advice Service realised a total weekly increase for families of £12,784 per year, annualised this amounts to £664,795 per year in 2021.

Nikki Pitt, Stepping Stones for Families, Service Manager said;

"Stepping Stones for Families are delighted to receive a grant award of £37,500 from Carrick Futures to support the costs of our Money Advice Service. The Money Advice Service provides essential support to families in Girvan and the surrounding areas and is needed more than ever. The cost of living crisis is affecting many people, and the service helps provides families with free, confidential and impartial advice on all types of money matters. This grant will ensure that we have additional staff hours to support our community in these difficult times.”
