Girvan Town Team receive funding for a new website promoting the tourism offering in Girvan and South Carrick.
Girvan Town Team established in 2016 as Scottish Charity Incorporated Organisation. The group are based in Girvan, with the organisation focusing on projects that help support health and social care issues in the community. These include development of local dementia initiatives such as “relaxed golf”, the installation of dementia friendly benches on the sea front and supporting the newly established Men’s Shed in Girvan. The group also supports a tourist information point (which is delivered in conjunction with Visit Scotland).
The group has recently been awarded a grant of £5,220 to create a website and purchase banners to promote and encourage tourism within Girvan and surrounds.
In October 2020, Creetown Initiative was commissioned to work with SenScot (Social Enterprise Network Scotland, an umbrella body for social enterprise network in Scotland) to deliver a community led tourism pilot project in Girvan. Girvan was chosen by SenScot as it was felt there was real potential to improve the Tourism offering with the community. The “Girvan Community Led Tourism Project” will support the development of a community led tourism action plan in Girvan, keeping community needs at the heart of the project and connecting with local partners from the public, private and third sectors. Girvan Town Team are an integral part of this project and part of the steering group, which was drawn together from the local community.
After a number of meetings and consultations within Girvan, it was identified that the on-line tourism offering of Girvan could be improved and a website will now be created, which will include sections such as:
• History of the town of Girvan
• Key historical buildings in the area
• Location eg coastal location, nature
• What Girvan has to offer?
• What to do in Girvan e.g., walking, cycling, fishing, boat trips
Chris Hannah, Senior Project Officer, Creetown Initiative said “Thanks to the Carrick Futures grant the Girvan Community Led Tourism Project will be able to add a fantastically visual website and banner designs to the other digital marketing activities being undertaken with the help of a specialist marketing company, all of which will be used to promote the beautiful area of Girvan and surrounds”.
We look forward to the launch of the website later this year.
