Ballantrae Bowling Club received a Carrick Futures COVID-19 emergency grant of £2,650 in June 2020.
Due to the pandemic, the Club was unable to open for the 2020 summer bowling season, with no date available at the time as to when the bowling could re-commence. Closure of the Club had resulted in a significant reduction of income that would usually be generated. The grant award was to support the Club to maintain the bowling green, clubhouse and surrounding grounds which would help ensure that the Club could continue to open until the restrictions have been lifted.
The Club was established in 1885 and is a well-known and valued community facility. Annually, over 100 people benefit from the Club which included players members, pupils from the local primary school and visitors from nearby bowling clubs. The project was an excellent fit with the Covid-19 Emergency Fund criteria to support organisations suffering major adverse losses as a result of the pandemic.
Anne McCulloch, Club Secretary said “A big thank you to Carrick Futures as this has been a difficult year for everyone and this grant funding has taken a bit of the pain away from the committee members on the clubs finances to ensure that we can start in a comfortable financial place in 2021.”
