Pitch Improvements On Target In Girvan

Five-a-side footballers in Girvan could soon be celebrating a new playing surface, thanks to a grant of £24,420 from Carrick Futures to contribute to the costs of replacing the surface of the 5-a-side pitch at Hamilton Park, Girvan.

Girvan FC hope that replacing the surface of the pitch, installing LED lights and repairing and improving the surrounding timber and fencing will make the sport more accessible and safer for players.

The current playing surface at Hamilton Park is more than 20 years old and, with an expected lifespan when it was installed of ten years, is showing its age. Despite the poor surface, the facility is used by three adult football teams and a local athletics club. Walking football, which started last May, has been very popular with two sessions being held per week and 50 people attending.

Hamilton Park is a valuable community asset offering a unique space for sporting and community activities and the group has plans to increase the number of people using the pitch regularly three-fold.

This is an ambitious project that will improve an important community asset, encouraging more groups to use the space for either community events or regular sporting activity.
